- Jason and Michael talk about the industry's schizophrenia. First off Duke Nukem Forever, the king of all vaporware, is finally going to be released. Reports say that it feels and looks like a Duke Nukem game.
- Madden '11 continues to be over hyped and shows that any game can turn a profit if enough money is thrown into marketing.
- AMD is killing the ATI brand and is instead absorbing them and re-branding them as AMD. This is due to AMD being a much more recognizable brand than ATI. The ATI Radeon series of graphics cards is now known as the AMD Radeon.
- Sony continues to attempt to only ever us proprietary technology such as the Cell Processor for the PS3. This is comparable to Apple and their walled garden with only Apple products being compatible with Apple products.
- Aurora Feint unveiled a cross platform multiplayer SDK for both the Android and the iPhone. This allows games on both the Android and the iPhone to play with each other. This has never been done before with the iOS and Apple has never shown preference for any company doing cross platform work. The Playtime SDK promises achievements, leader boards, lobbies, and matchmaking across both platforms.
- Interplay is returning to publishing...kinda. They are publishing their own Fallout MMO which has to be released in 2011 because the licensing will revert back to Bethesda. Right now the only thing they are publishing is Pinball Yeah by Coderunners and Tommy Tronic by Oasis Games.
- Bethesda has signed on to the UK's largest gaming expo Euro Gamer Expo 2010 in London and they will show off Rage, Hunted, Fallout New Vegas, and Brink. It is possible that they are going to be announcing Elder Scrolls V.
- OnLive has announced that it is due through wireless internet but it still doesn't matter. There are still latency issues on wired connections and wireless connections could exasperate the problem. They are offering a 50% off pricing on Labor Day but Steam still allows for a much more stable option. OnLive is now officially showing it on the iPad.
- LucasArts has confirmed reductions in the San Francisco offices. This allegedly includes 85 staff. 60 Developers, 25 Q&A personal, and 2 projects. Some losses could be attributed to Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2 being completed as it is now standard to immediately cut the staff after completion.
- Capcom's Head of R&D Keiji Inafune believes that Canada is rapidly moving to the forefront of the gaming industry. Canada has recently leapt over the UK to become the 3rd largest development country in the world behind the US, and Japan. Canada has EA, BioWare, UbiSoft, and a few other major development companies. Lenient tax laws are making Canada significantly more attractive to development companies. Canada has a tax relief scheme specifically for the video game industry which is more than any other country.
- The Kinect and the Move are both getting middle ware support from Blitz Games who will build full motion control support into their engine which will be used in such hits as All Star Karate and Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout.
- CryEngine 3 will be offering built in stereoscopic 3D which remains the bane of Jason's existence. It isn't that difficult to manage but it seems to be a knee-jerk reaction by the entertainment industry to a decline in revenue to increase their cash flow.
- Xbox Live is becoming more expensive but the industry is trying to push how much of an incredible value it is. This is due to the number of new features that are being offered but all those features can be accessed on a computer for free.
- The Xbox D-Pad still sucks and still isn't a D-Pad.
- 93% of Take-2's Third Quarter sales came from the PS3 and 360 and Wii just 1% which raises the question of where the other 6% came from.
- Metroid Other M has no excuse for existing and may or may not be worse than Kayne and Lynch 2. It has a 5 hour single player campaign and has no multiplayer. Team Ninja developed this which explains pretty much everything wrong with it.
