That Guy With The Glasses
ThatGuyWithTheGlasses is a very popular video review, article, and podcast site, hosting content from over 60 contributors. In its near three-year history, executive producers Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic), Rob Walker, Bhargav Dronamraju, Mike Ellis, and Mike Michaud have fashioned the site into an entrepreneurial dream, allowing many fledgling comedians and actors to display their talents.
LordKaT was for quite a while a contributor to this website, hosting the Until We Win series. He has since left, but on very positive terms, and the two sites consider themselves business partners. Many fans from both sites have since affiliated themselves with LordKaT.com and TGWTG, and for that reason this article is here to showcase and explain many of the talents that sometimes visit or interact with the stream.
TGWTG Contributors
Noah "TheSpoonyOne" Antwiler
Main article: TheSpoonyOne
TheSpoonyOne is a reviewer of media - video games, movies, and occasionally TV shows - that have either made his life miserable or that he generally dislikes. His (controversial, especially at first) long-duration reviews of both Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X, plus crossovers with popular comic critic Linkara and a long YouTube career, has made him one of the most popular reviewers on TGWTG. On the side, he has started doing reviews of current-running wrestling shows.
Lewis "Linkara" Lovhaug
Main article: Linkara
Not a frequent visitor, but has appeared a couple times, he is a comic book reviewer. His involvement in crossovers, especially with TheSpoonyOne, has given him tremendous popularity and a near-monopoly on the comic book audience on TGWTG.
He used to play in Spoony's D&D campaign as Bayban, a human Paladin.
Joey "AngryJoe" Vargas
Main article: AngryJoe
AngryJoe is the owner and operator of the Blistered Thumbs subsidiary of Channel Awesome, and as part of the site hosts reviews of current video games. He's also done Top 5/Top 10 lists related to gaming, as well as interviews with big names within the industry.
Sean "HopeWithinChaos" Fausz
Main article: HopeWithinChaos
HWC hosts several game-related review shows on Blistered Thumbs. He also has taken the liberty of doing WWE RAW and NXT wrestling reviews on Spoony's site.
He is one of the most frequent visitors to the stream chat, and played Darstine in Spoony's D&D campaign.
Paul "PawDugan" Schuler and Sarah "PushingUpRoses" Wilson
Main articles: PawDugan, PushingUpRoses
Often appearing in tandem, PawDugan and PushingUpRoses are retro game fans and music lovers. Both of them appear on the TGWTG podcast Transmission Awesome, but they also have their own shows: PawDugan (who normally just goes by "Paw") hosts a review show that looks at movies that center around songs, whether they be musicals or otherwise. Roses does a series of short Let's Plays of old DOS PC games, sometimes bringing in special guests to help commentate.
Chris "Rollo_T" Larios
Main article: Rollo T
RolloT is the host of the TGWTG Podcast "Transmission Awesome", alongside PawDugan, Y Ruler of Time, and PushingUpRoses. He has formed his own blog describing the D&D sessions he participates in, among other topics.
Chris co-hosts Turducken is Tasty and the Weekly Manga Recap. He played Juliet Tunde in Spoony's D&D campaign and now plays Caitlin Cormac in LordKaT's Wyrmwick campaign.
Nikolas "Y Ruler of Time" Freeman
Main article: Y Ruler of Time
YRulerofTime is a reviewer of manga on his show Read Right to Left, and now does a weekly manga podcast on the live stream with RolloT. He is also the co-host of Transmission Awesome.
He played Viktor, and now plays Dhother, in the D&D sessions.
Michael "Skitch" Schiciano
Main article: Skitch
One of the most frequent visitors to the stream, Skitch is a music contributor, creating chiptunes and other pieces of music for the producers at TGWTG. He also is a gamer and D&D expert, often getting excited about discussing such topics.
He is the co-host of This Week in Games, and played Garret (now playing Greig) in the D&D campaign.
Brad "The Cinema Snob" Jones
Main article: Cinema Snob
The Cinema Snob, much like Obscurus Lupa, is a movie reviewer who focuses on Z-grade variety; however, where Lupa aims more to inform and focuses on martial arts and horror flicks, Cinema Snob is more of a parody of movie reviewers, picking apart exploitation flicks and making "snobby" comments on them. In real life however, Brad Jones is a big fan of such films.
He also created "Brad Tries:" which "LordKaT Eats:" is (sort of) an off-shoot of. With this, he has revealed his undying love for Crystal Pepsi.
Nash Bozard
Main article: Nash
One of the newest contributors to TGWTG, Nash does a radio podcast named Radio Dead Air; his content on TGWTG is "What The Fuck is Wrong With You?", a video series exploring and discussing news articles and other media sources about the stupid things some people do.
He's also the co-host of Tuesday Tech Talk and How To Do It.
Other TGWTG Contributors
Others that have appeared on the stream include:
- Bhargav Dronamraju - An executive producer of TGWTG. One of the three original founders of Channel Awesome (the parent company that houses TGWTG and Blistered Thumbs), he usually shows up in the Nostalgia Critic's videos as an older version of the Captain Planet character Ma-Ti.
- Benjamin "Benzaie" Daniel - A French contributor, his videos focus on lesser-known gems of gaming (Games You Might Don't Know), top 10 lists related to movies or games, or videos that give tips on certain games (FAQ You!).
- Allison "Obscurus Lupa" Pregler - Usually popping in late at night if others are around, she is a movie reviewer, focusing on Z-grade horror and martial arts flicks.
- Hope "JesuOtaku" Chapman - Also a late-night dweller, usually in tandem with Lupa, she is an anime reviewer, and also does a video series of the history of the Digimon franchise.
- Elizabeth "Iron Liz" S. - Linkara's girlfriend and pun mistress, she has done reviews of tabletop RPGs and played Lilea in Spoony's D&D campaign.
- Todd "ToddInTheShadows" Nathanson - One of the few music reviewers on TGWTG, Todd pinpoints pop and top 40 songs for his show, a genre he actually finds enjoyable. He's participated in several Let's Plays within the site, one being Space Quest 3 with LordKaT, Roses and Paw.
- Mathew "Film Brain" Buck - Hailing from Britain, he is a movie reviewer focusing on bad movies normally dated after the Nostalgia Critic's cutoff date (2000). While starting off shaky, his second round of videos have enjoyed a tremendous jump in popularity and acclaim. He is the youngest contributor to the site at 20, and has fashioned himself a movie nerd, owning DVDs to over 700 movies.
- Justin "JewWario" Carmical - Justin looks over games that a person can import from Japan and play even with limited knowledge of the language. He also does articles on Blistered Thumbs related to the DS.
- Phelan "Phelous" Porteous - A horror movie reviewer, Phelous comes from Canada; he has a more dead-pan style of humor to his reviews, and is a bit more inquisitive than many of the other reviewers. He sets his reviews up so that at the end of each, he finds a way to "die", but mysteriously comes back to review the next movie.
- Julien "SadPanda" Diaz - Like Benzaie, SadPanda hails from France; and like Skitch, he is a music composer for the TGWTG crew, but focuses more on rock or off-rock tunes than Skitch, whom normally focuses on chiptunes. Two of his most well-known songs are ones he did for Phelous (which are in the end credits of his reviews) and Spoony, which was posted on his site, to great reviews.
- Lawrence "MasakoX" Simpson - Part of Team Four Star (of Dragonball Z Abridged fame), his videos have centered around small lessons in voice acting, from the best ways to use your voice to ways to get noticed by other voice-over companies. He now does two additional series: Anifile, an anime review series, and Masako Muses, a more casual series that focuses on topics of curiosity.
- Kaylyn "MarzGurl" Dicksion - An animé guru on TGWTG who came onto the site from the "Nostalgia Chick" contest. Her current main show is Anime News Editorial, a series of short videos that take a look of news involving anime, manga, and the people behind the media. She's also made videos on problems with translating games and anime from Japanese to English.
- "8-bit Mickey" Paradis - He is one of the members of Game Heroes, a team of reviewers that delve in Top 10 Lists and general game reviews on their site, and as of late on Blistered Thumbs.
- Chris "Vangelus" Ho - "Internet Personality Vangelus", as he intros himself, reviews action figures and toys. He's also one of the very few Asian contributors to the site.
- Daron "The Rap Critic" Jackson - As would probably be obvious, he reviews rap songs and artists. He's also a rapper himself, releasing two albums under the name Masta Artisan.
- Patrick "Coldguy" Burden - A big podcaster and blogger, Coldguy's main focus is with his Spinebreakers podcast. Coldguy has substituted for Skitch on This Week In Games in the past.
- Kyle OanCitizen Kallgren - A film reviewer like many of his peers, but focusing on arthouse and "high-brow" movies on his show "Brows Held High". While not a frequent visitor, he's connected with many of the normal chat pack.
