A man without eyes could see what was ahead of her, yet the most observent would forgive her for missing it. As Selena stepped silently over the grassland, little did she know that a single arrow to a rabbit would take her down a path that would not only change her life, but her entire belief towards life itself.
Selena teased the bowstring between her fingers, getting a feel for the pull and angle. Although
todays hunt had prooved fruitless so far, she was sure that she would soon have the big catch that would
bring her masters favour. It had been several hours already and Master Kithra had demanded she be back
before the sunset, Selena only had an hour at most, but remained optimistic.
She took a deep breath as she eyed down the shaft of the arrow, repeating her masters words.
"Focus on your timing, time your shots, shoot to-" She paused, a rustling in the grass. A quick shot with
her bow and the silence returned. Selena paused for a moment in thought, "Oh god, what if i shot a dwarf
again!". Selena ran to where the arrow had landed and luckily, with a sigh of relief, it wasn't a drawf.
Master Kithra had spent a great deal of time and effort dealing with that mans tribe, almost begging for
their forgiveness. A second mishap would mean Kithra giving up on Selena entirely, one of the rare moments
Kithra had been so flat with her.
The target this time was a small Rabbit and although not the largest or most nobel catch, would
please her master greatly. She never understood why Master Kithra had such a hatred for the creatures, all
she knew was it had something to do with a group she traveled with previously.
Carefully, Selena removed the arrow from the twisted body, examining it. Luckily it hadn't broken.
"A clean shot, naturally" queitly boasting to herself. Looking back at the ground she looked over her
kill, it truly was a clean shot, a little more pride swelling up inside her. Something was off however,
gently she tilted the body around and noticed a strange marking on its underbelly. The hair was much
thinner and coarser on the underside, like it had been recently cut, and the marking, from what she could
make out was a sun symbol with 9 serpents branching out from it.
Running her fingers over the mark, she felt a sting in her finger tips. Pulling back she stared at
the creature in horror, the body quickly started to break down before her, as if it was collapsing from
the inside into a burning dust. As the body dissolved Selena quietly muttered, "the hell?"
