Nice to see you with a christmas hat :D
have you ever thought that using a KDE program (such as KDENLIVE) would screw with you GNOME desktop. you should drop down to XFCE (Xubuntu) or LXDE and give it a whirl in that Windows Manger and disable all that Eye-Candy BS (Compiz and Emerald). or just find a more stable version of linux. i have about the same computer as you do... but i don't do video editing but i do some Audio Editing. I used XFCE and still fast as hell in Fedora 12.
That's because Ubuntu's repositories suck. There are plenty of video editors that will run on Gnu/Linux, that are much, much better than what you are using now, but Ubuntu doesn't seem to support them. I have no idea why people say Ubuntu is easy...
Anyway, there is one video editor that Ubuntu does happen to support, Blender. It's really a 3D modeler & animator, but it comes with a video editor, as well. So if nothing else works, try Blender. http://www.straightedgelinux.com/videoBlender/
I have a question for your FAQ. What's your day job?
ACK! I wanted to go to MAGfest SO bad. I just can't make it. Anyway, it's always nice to see somebody take sometime out and try to make things make seance for everybody else. You are really down to earth to, I've seen when some people get big on the net they let it go to there heads, nice to see that this small amount of fame hasn't affected you that much.
Great to hear your answers to all of those questions. I'm looking forward to your next video.
ps: Yankees aren't going to do it again this year. Red sox all the way.
Can you tell us what game the next Until We Win will be about?
Argh, I know i'm an idiot but I can't figure out what your email is.
I seriously can't find it anywhere, and the possibilities of what it could be are vast.
it could be....
teh possibilities are endless.
So please, shoot me an e-mail so i can shoot you one, lol.

Apparently, if you haven't already received 400 messages about it, the JPN version of Dragon's Lair didn't run as slowly as the US version, so the speed up you talked about isn't because of emulation, it's just that the speed of the JPN version just got lost in translation to the US version. Go figure.
Hey man, I got a bit of news that might solve your editing problems, not sure how far underway it is or anything, but
http://www.learningubuntu.com/news/creators-vlc-are-going-release-video-editor
The guys that did VLC are making an editor, and it looks promising.
Love your videos lordkat, and I don't think the vlogs are too long, they make great background listening
Video editing - You might want to switch back to windows...ok maybe not xp, but try win 2k sp4. I find it to be more stable and more user friendly....problem is, most new software wont work on it. but hey for "Until We Win" playing old games, it should do just fine. Another plus is you might be able to find it at flea market for really cheap.
I use Windows Xp home 32 bit. The software I use to capture footage is called "Gun growler cam." It is an ok program, it has a basic built in editor....but it's not perfect. Fraps is good too, but it wont record footage from some emulators for some reason that escapes me. It works for BF1942 but I can't get it to work for SNES 9x.
Magfest - I will be at magfest too. It's also my 1st magfest. Needless to say, I will totally see you there. I hope they don't nail you down with too many panels to host. They can be difficult to host sometimes, even more so when you don't have enough time for everything [ or when you have waaaay too much time]
PS - dude, I tried RPG maker too. and man that thing sucks. It is such a pain in the ass to use.
MAgicRob, I played the other versions of Dragon's Lair on the NES and while the controls are more responsive, the game is NOT that fast. I'm sorry, but until someone sits down and proves me wrong, that one video people are linking me to is a sped up version of a Tool Assisted speedrun.
IIRC, the movement on the elevators (moving back and forth in one spot before jumping off to the next level) was specifically designed to manipulate the games random number generator.
You can program using turing.. It is a great first time programming language with great graphics. Go to mr-d.ca to get help using turing. You will like it.. Give it a TRY!
You mentioned a tool-assisted speed run in the video, but have you been to speeddemosarchive.com? They do NOT do tool-assisted speed runs and have 500+ games that they've done a speed run on. http://speeddemosarchive.com/DragonsLairNES.html there's the dragon's lair run if you're interested.
I discovered you from Spoony's website, and I'm glad I did! Keep up the great work!
Hey. LordKat
I wonder if you can tell me the original game behind this idea http://www.umnet.com/free-game/19309-Sexy_Puzzmaniac_240x320
I wanna know what arcade game inspired it. I know I played it when I was a little kid, so please tell me if you can.
If you do make t-shirts I hope you have one that says "You're gonna die... A lot."
Dude....
Sony Vegas for Windows XP will solve all your problems.
Maybe it's because I don't make additional scripts, but I've found RPGMakerVX to be quite simple enough to use (if you're lazy and don't feel like making anything complicated). To each his own, though.
