Yeah, I know how you feel. I had the same problem back when I went to school. Two days before a test where I nedded it, but no time to buy a new one. So I sat there with a backup laptop from my school, which was slow as hell and struggled to accomplish anything useful.

So, good luck with your sisters laptop.

I love the hardware woes! :D
You seem like a system-side kind of guy, LK, what with your editing and OS experimentation.
For me, it's the other way around. When something is pissing me off on the hardware side of things, I'm also secretly enjoying every second of it.
Of course, I've never had it happen on a deadline sort-of thing -
I hope you can get it resolved without too much stress.

Melon's right, though. You can easily set yourself up with a new rig (decent enough for your intents and purposes) for dirt cheap. Why not open up for dough-nations? I'd be willing to put in a few bucks, and I'm sure everyone else would, too.

By the way, your sis is fawxy, dawg.

if you want to recover the old hds, why don't you get a hard drive usb external mount and download power data recovery and install xp on a cheap hd? It's an excellent piece of software. I've been able to recover everything.

"If you sit down, and do the same thing over and over again, eventually, you'll do something different."

I made that a quote on FaceBook.

That is Full SATA, and there are places that can attempt data recovery, but you wouldn't like the cost.

LK, I don't know how much you know about Flash, but you need to stop using that thumbdrive for swap immediately! A flash memory cell can only be written to so many times (usually at least 100k) before it gets ripped apart and using it as a swap partition WILL destroy it very quickly!

Aside from that, I too have felt the loss of my main HDD, and I feel for you. Best of luck, man.

What a beautiful ending.
I'm looking forward to the day MY computer will die on me. Sounds like fun.

A computer warranty company called SquareTrade recently published an article about laptop reliability. Here are a couple quotes:
"SquareTrade analyzed failure rates for over 30,000 new laptop computers covered by SquareTrade Laptop Warranty plans and found that one-third of all laptops will fail within 3 years."
"Looking at the first 3 years of ownership, 31% of laptop owners reported a failure to SquareTrade. Two-thirds of this failure (20.4%) came from hardware malfunctions, and one-third (10.6%) was reported as accidental damage."
(source: google "SquareTrade laptop reliability 1109 pdf")

Enjoy your thanksgiving Jason, and don't buy into any of that "Spoony is a god" bullshit.

He's awesome.

He's funny.

He's been doing this for quite a while.

and he has a huge cult following.

But you're just as good as he is at playing oldschool games, and I actually think, for the most part, you're funnier.

So enjoy your thanksgiving, get your shit together, and come back with a Vengeance.

Grab an ide/sata to usb

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=ide+to+usb&x=0&y=0

I fix computers and use this all the damn time on broken computers, if your hard drive is fucked it's not going to to work but it's worth a try. It's just like plugging in a external hard drive.

Sad to see you have so much bad luck with your system. But hey, if you need a new PC I know at least two people who would donate to see more "Unitl we win". Paypal?
Good luck with your backup!

You might want to check your local goodwill/charity shop type thing for a SATA cable. They have various fucked up computer parts you might not expect them to have lying 'round.

Hey Jason, I got an idea for an Until We Win. What if you have a friend on an episode where you both play a game that you both didn't beat back then? A Game like Streets of Rage, Contra, Final Fight, Double Dragon III, or even Golden Axe. You know, side scrolling, action platforming 2 player games. Try it, I'm sure a lot of your fans will want to see this too.

By the way, I felt your pain when your laptop kicked the bucket. As a joke, you should give your laptop a proper burial and record it.. haha

Wow, that really sucks. In the future, it might be wise to backup all your data onto an external harddrive.

Big fan!

You said on "Transmission Awesome" you were working on "Adamantium Rage". Is that going to be the next "Until We Win" now that this one is canceled?

Also, sorry about this considering you're so swamped with requests but...

First, you did say you're going to do "Dragon's Lair" for the NES, right? Is that one next in line afterward? Also, are you ever going to do "Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels" a.k.a. "Super Mario Bros. for Super Players" a.k.a. the Japanese "Super Mario Bros. 2"? Now THERE'S a hard motherfucker.

I shall mourn the passing of your computer, Jason, and then use the Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 CAW I created of you to kick the ass of the Spoony CAW I made in honor of your constant digital martyrdom.

Hey man I dunno where you put game requests but I would like to see you beat Ultimate Ghosts an Goblins on Ultimate mode. It's on PSP if you have a way to capture video from that. Probably PSP emulators.

It is FULL sata, I hook up laptop hard drives to an external full size enclosure all the time.

Man that's brutal! 1st a laptop GPU fries, and then a 500GB HD gives you the "death" ticks.
You should build a desktop man. And since its holiday season, a lot of stuff is dirt cheap.
Donations are a good idea too. not just money, maybe you could ask for donated parts. Im sure one of these guys on the interweb has an "old" Geforce 8800 series GPU collecting dust in a box somewhere.

I agree that laptop mobos should have GPU sockets, unfortunately AFAIK, GPUs by themselves aren't available.

Rip your computer, i am using the same type now. The only problem is the Fan that sometimes might get really buzzy and make your ears puke.
