I wish I could go to your meet ups. Sadly they are a bit to much of a drive from California.
For you, Jason.

About the DnD streaming. I was watching the Sunday one and even though it was a little "boring" it really does help people in the chat that are interesting in the game to understand the basic rules. I've probably learned more listening to Joe in that then I did watching the Robot Chicken writers play it on the DnD website. As for someone who doesn't play nor never played, I found it incredibly informative.
As for the other group, it might be interesting so I'll hold off judgement until then.
Looking forward to more! :D
Hauppauge 1212 HD PVR, Newegg has it at 184.99 after rebate, does up to 1080i. I prefer 720P, since I am compressing down to 5MB per minute in the end anyway. It has s-video, composite, component, and optical inputs. It loops the footage to the TV via component cables with optional optical. You can record footage in 13.5Mbps variable bit rate at 720P with a dual core processor and use less than 10% load. 1 hour of higher quality game footage is 4GB and compresses well.
I investigated HDMI solutions such as black magic's, and did not like it. Incompatible with certain systems, and uses more Processor power that not everyone has. Besides that most people end up using a dongle to use component because devices such as PS3 will not transmit data to a device that is not HDCP compliant, and last I checked, those solutions were not. However you can record say a DVD player...... Which is trying to record a dvd that's natively 480p, upconverted to 1080p, just to re compress it later?
I took up enough of your time
Jason,
I've sent a few texts and I know you can't reply to everyone, but the last 4 digits... are they 5328 or 3528 because i thought it spelled LORDKAT not LORKDAT... anyways, I'd love to know
Thanks
HOLY
FUCK
It's 567-3528 I can't believe I didn't notice that error in the videos. Holy fucking christ.
what poor bastard in Indiana is getting my text messages?! D:
LK,
I know you must have been getting tons of comments about the save states and cheating but as a long time fan, I remembered you saying in one of your V-logs that you didn't use either and you very specificly said, "I don't use save states" if my memory serves me right.
Please don't take it wrong, I immediately knew you couldn't do your weekly show, a series on the damned hardest games out there, in the allotted time given. I'm just glad to see that you came clean with that. You're the best player on TGWTG for sure, let alone one of the best NES players I've ever seen, so keep up the good work and don't let the people who take this shit too seriously get to you. Hours upon hours of entertainment and all you ask for in return is a couple of clicks on advertisements (which, thank god, stop at the beginning if you click on them). Not to say that I didn't ask myself the same question of you using save states, but at least I can say that I knew it doesn't matter when you're providing the same entertainment and keeping with a tighter schedule.
My only complaint with the videos is a lack of footage when you're talking about a specific part. You say, "Go left, kill him, get this." and don't show it. Instead, you show almost random footage of scenes. Most of which are just before boss fights, making us feel like you're just reading from a walk-through. It's also really annoying when you're trying to follow the instructions while playing the actual game. Zelda II may be the best example that I've found.
You rock even from here in Denver, which btw should be you're next meet-up spot. =P
Congrats on gettin Fios, I'm looking forward to gettin 40/5 cable through Brighthouse here in Florida, fuckin crazy its that fast now. Just wanted to say that I like the idea of you streaming some UWW gameplay footage. It's great bein able to check that out and chat about the games and your struggles with them :) Keep up the awesome work man!
I wanted to register specifically for this because I wanted to throw this out, even if you don't see it.
When I discovered your show, I got inspired. I wanted to beat these crazy hard games too because I knew someone else could do it with enough practice. I went online and bought a copy of Battletoads, and I had to wait a MONTH for the dang thing to show up. While eagerly waiting, I must have re-watched the Battletoads episode about 15 times, carefully studying every second of it. Eventually I noticed that during the fight with the Dark Queen, you had about 6 or 7 lives. I thought "No way he could have that many lives legit". At that point I knew something was fishy, but I didn't mind because Until We Win did what it was supposed to do. After carefully watching that episode over and over, I eventually was able to make it up to stage 9 on my NES without warps or cheats. The first time I got there I actually had all three continues, and I even made it to the fourth cog on stage 9. Without Until We Win, I NEVER would have made it that far. The point of this show isn't to see someone ELSE beat the game, the point of the show is to help YOU get through the game, and UWW did exactly that. Granted I have yet to actually BEAT the game, and I likely never will, but I can be proud that I got as far as I did, and I have you to thank for it.
Keep it up Jason, and I'll keep watching. Now where did I put my copy of Blaster Master?
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear you mention a budget for your new TV. So all I can do is tell you that I got a pretty nice Toshiba Regza 240Hz, 42" LCD TV for >$800 off of a link @ pricewatch.com; That probably isn't in your budget, but it was a good price for that TV. slickdeals.net is also good for TVs, games, etc.
Good luck.
Man, I wish I would've known you guys were in Reno!
I could've shared all the great food spots (chunky guys unite!).
(ok, I'm not *that* chunky, but I do enjoy my meals)
Well, hope the Biggest Little City wasn't too unforgiving on your pocketbook and sorry about 4th street (just... in general).
And FYI, nobody even cares about Molassia around here. Not making fun, but seriously, even most locals don't know or care about it.
Which I find rather hilarious.

Oh, sorry to self-promote, but my blog is:

Yeah, I thought I put it in my initial post.
I should register.

If you don't think you'd miss the red white and yellow plugs, as well as the S video (or have some workaround such as a cheap A/V box or a VCR), then i'd suggest looking into a computer monitor with a built in tv tuner, they usually cost less and have higher resolutions for less.
I have a 1050p HD (capable of accepting 1080p without general loss of picture quality) 22 inch samsung touch of color monitor in my bedroom and to be perfectly honest, it's the best tv i've ever owned, it has a beautiful picture, plays back 1080p better than my big screen (which is rated as 1080p) and has probably the best upconverter for sd i've ever seen, and the best part is it cost me a little over 200$ and was not on sale.
Yeah it should look more clear your fiber optic cables can't pick up noise like a traditional cable can cause it uses you know light. Thats one thing but also its got hella more bandwidth so they don't need to compress it as much as cable does. Satellite companies for the longest time didn't allow local channels cause they took up way too much bandwidth, they upgraded their capabilities in order to compete with cable. If I had Fios lan parties galore and i'd host a few servers probably too.
Good TV with good Sound? I can't recommend the Philips brand more. The 22" 720p LCD TV goes for 280 at target. The coolest thing is it has smart sound so it doesn't get super loud during commercials and get real quiet during your show.
The 32inch is 420 which is not bad either. But if your cramped why don't you mount a 42 inch to the ceiling? Well its rented house so I can see why but yeah.
" bass that makes you shit yourself every time there's an explosion "
ROFL
I lulzed pretty hard.
Yeah, D&D streams sound intresting. But if you guys ever get bored and are looking for something diffrent, look for Paranoia Xp, great fun and easy to learn.

Lordkat uses save states? I am done with this site.
Who cares if you use save-states? I watch your vids for the same reason I watch Spoony, AVGN and Dena from Still Playing. Not because they are astounding good at the games, but for the immense entertainment value. I never played any of the games you show here, since Germany was never that big on SNES as probably the US was. Most of the games I played as a kid were on the Atari and C64 and later Amiga (yes, I am that old).
Point is, I watch your videos because I like them and they are among the best TGWTG has on the site (and not everything is really good).

Ok, just getting this out there. Until We Win is NOT about the actual footage of him playing, thats like background music to the show. The heart of UWW is that he tells you ho to beat the game. He COULD NOT give us advice that good with out beating the game without cheats.
I've known about the save states in the video since, I believe, Dragon's Lair. They don't bother me because the advice he gives is so detailed, so precise and so easy to fallow that you can tell he destroyed that game.
If you want to WATCH somebody beat the game form beginning to end without cheats, go on youtube and watch a Let's Play. If you want to learn how to defeat these monstrous games that destroy your confidence as a gamer and finally conquer your bad memories, watch Until We Win.
Jason, I love your videos, and even if you are the new guy, you just have to remember, So was Linkara at one point, so was Spoony at one point, even Doug was new a few centuries ago. So never say that you are not worthy, no, you may not be entitled as of yet, but you have one hell of a future ahead of you, and I can't wait to see where your path takes you. Good luck from one of your fans.
I use a 38 inch Dynex 720p as my main computer monitor and TV and I don't have a problem with it at all. The speakers are actually pretty good, and with my PS3 the speakers on the TV can drown out my stereo speakers which I use for my computer, my work around for surround sound.
Hey Jason.
I just registered but I have been watching your stuff since I found it in the blog section of tgwtg.
Anyway I found this tv and it seems perfect for what you want and pretty cheap too: http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-VT2230-22-Inch-1080p-HDTV/dp/B001P4S5V6
Hope that helps!
looking forward to tomorrow going to be alot of fun
All of LordKat's videos prior to this Vlog update,
simply awesome.
All of Lordkat's videos after this Vlog update,
will be awesome.
Nothing changes
Looking forward to tomorrow! Can't wait to hang out and such. Just go easy on the strawberries...
I think you sell yourself pretty short, actually.
There are only a half dozen people connected with TGWtG that I find particularly entertaining, and you are in the top three with Spoony and Linkara. NC is OK, but I am finding that the more "polished" his act gets the less entertaining it is. Film Brain knows his stuff, which I am pretty impressed with for a kid his age. But I generally find him annoying enough that I don't bother with his videos unless that movie tormented me in the past. Cinema Snob also knows his shit, and of all the reviewers that specialize in movies alone he is probably my favorite. Be nice if he got better equipment though, his videos look fairly craptastic. Captain Canadian Monotone bores me and Angry Joe needs to shorten his videos up until they fit into the minute worth of information they actually contain. I value his opinion, but his rampage is tiresome. Sage is OK, but he does his best work on new games and I don't tend to have much stake in those. Too much going on to keep up on the cutting edge, the last game I played for more than a few hours was "The Orange Box." Jew Wario talks about games I haven't ever touched and don't have time to screw with now. Like all the rest, he seems like a great guy.(Even captain monotone is probably fun to hang out with.) But I can't bring myself to care much about most of his subject matter.
Handsome Tom and 8-bit Mickey are comedy gold, but their videos are a bit lackluster. It's sad, really. I am sure he had good reasons, but I think the guy left a lot of his cool behind when he left "Screw Attack."
I am more willing to believe that you didn't get a lot of screen time due more to seniority and widespread appeal than anything else. I left the ladies out of my earlier assessment for a reason. They could apparently only get two of them out there, and they have the boobs. They were gonna get screen time. (I wish they had gotten better screen time, I think N-Chick was completely wasted on a joke that ceased to be funny last year this time.)
But the ladies aside, NC was going to get top billing, it's his show. Spoony was Doomed to be the runner up as he has more character in his grab bag then anybody else on the site. Linkara was a solid choice for third, even though I think he shares that distinction with a few others in the anniversary video, merely due to his videos having broken their own formula enough for him to have quite the back story to draw from as well. (I still cross my fingers and hope that in some perfect world I will see an anniversary video that has Linkara and Spoony VS. Doctor Insano and MechaLinkara. /glee!) But after the "Holy trinity" of the three schmuckheads, I would call you a solid fourth place based on entertainment value, information, review (because you review every game you play, whether you realize this or not) and number of videos. Considering how new you are, your video selection you have up is pretty damn skippy.
I am betting by next year you will see yourself getting significantly more screen time. Because even if you don't branch out, even if you don't shake up your videos, you are still the "Go to guy" for any game that is giving these other clowns fits. So you will continue to do your own thing, you will continue to be putting in cameos and guest appearances, and you will undoubtedly continue to gain in popularity as this goes on.
Later, and good luck-
The Datatroll
Try asking Bennett "The sage" about capturing video footage. He captures A TON of HD footage for his reviews.
I was thinking if youre still looking for a video capture card thing you shoul ask Armake21 now known as Boxedentertainment21 off of Youtube what he uses as he captures a lot of good quality 360 footage and the like. Not sure he'll even talk to you but he does those sorts of reviews a lot so he should be able to tell you where he got whatever he uses and it looks like good video rips to me.
I went to the meetup and I didn't see him, waited for a whole hour, I did get an autograph from Paul Levitz at Midtown Comics, so it wasn't a total loss :(
LordKat, you are a liar. You want until you're more popular then ever, and then tell us that the entire premise of your show is false (in a vlog, not an actual episode, to minimize bad publicity), and that you compromised your principles because time is short and the "money is good".
I watched you because I thought you were doing something I'd never be able to do. I watched you because you are supposed to be an expert.
I will never watch you again, and I hope your other fans call you out for this.
Also, saying that it doesn't matter what your fans say is just another nail in the coffin of this once proud series.
Seconded
Oh, woe is LordKaT. Because of a misunderstanding in the show's main concept (until WE win, it was even discussed in one of the prior FAQs), LordKaT's reputation is irreversibly tarnished and an Anonymous viewer is leaving forever. Surely Mr. Anonymous will be missed and hailed as a martyr of our times. All Jason did was provide hints to allow us to beat these difficult games, but in order to do this, HE HAD TO USE SAVE STATES. Charlatan! But look at Mr. Anonymous here! He has truly provided a great service to the community. He has given us...um...erm...
...
Well...
Mr. Anonymous, you didn't really do anything, so no one's going to miss you. So please kindly go about fucking off and don't let the door strike you on the way out.
@MadDogBV: Seconded.
@Anonymous x2: See that's how you do it, you don't just post twice anonymously. You post something that someone ELSE actually wishes to second troll!
Until we win started with that premise. It evolved and changed so the audience can have more entertainment. It will probably change even more! If you don't like the change, than I wonder why your on the internet, since, you know, it's the biggest change in the past century.
First, more than one person uses this computer. I didn't double-post.
Second, I didn't care how often LordKat updated. I'm aware that it's a free show and if it took him a few weeks or even months to beat a game, no big deal, I'd wait. It was a joy to see someone tearing these games apart unassisted, and my friends and I would always watch the new UWW together and talk about the games we'd never beaten and how awesome LordKat is.
Of course, now we know it's NOT unassisted. And if he uses savestates, how do we know he's not using cheats?
I'm sorry that you'd prefer quick updates over updates that take a while but are impressive and satisfying. Apparently, quantity trumps quality for most people.
What happened to "I will never watch you again"? What are you still doing here?
A friend of mine told me that I was asked to "kindly go about f***ing off" by you, and I felt the need to defend both myself, and the others who feel the same way as me.
Maybe that's an arrogant statement, since there's only a handful of other people in the comments that feel like they've been lied to by LordKat, and they are consistently flamed by the majority until they stop posting.
But don't worry, this will be my last post. I'm done going against the grain here, and I apologize for upsetting you with my personal opinions. Apparently, pointing out LordKat's hypocracy isn't allowed here.
Sorry Jason but you did say that one of the rules of Until We Win was no save states. You broke your own rule. So don't say you never said you don't use them because you DID say you don't use them.
-Your Fans
Thats not to say we don't still like you and enjoy your show because we still do. Its just don't sit here and tell us "I never said I don't use save states" when you HAVE said you don't use save states in a couple of your previous videos. Hell if I remember correctly its one of the rules of UWW.
People seriously care that he used save states?
Wow. Losers.
Re: A friend of mine.
Oh dear. The guy I dared to question has a "friend"? How DARE I. People with friends on the Internet are just so much more important.
I'd take your opinion more seriously if you and your "friend" didn't go by "Anonymous", the most popular identity for 4chan trolls. I don't know who you are or why I should care whether or not you like LordKaT's videos or think he's a hypocrite. For all I know, you could both be the same person operating as a stealth troll. That said, I'm done trying to argue. I could spend all day trying to tell you to watch LordKaT's other videos and know that he's not some hotshot gamer who's trying to prove he's better than everyone else; he's a normal guy just like you or me who gives tip on how to beat games. Savestates shouldn't even play into this.
And yes, you will continue to be flamed because of your consistency in missing the point.
Go ahead and launch your little anti-LordKaT campaign.
Lol i think we need to lax about save states, i personally use it because i find it really boring to not be able to pick up where i left off(Like in the middle of blaster master) since there is no way to save ingame for most of these games. It can also be useful to pratice some harder parts which take long to get to and is easy to fail. I just dont get the moral issue. Its not cheating, its just a quick recovery in my mind.
I support your use of save states LK!
Hey everybody, that guys a big phony!
In all seriousness, I'd rather see your show weekly than having to wait forever just for one episode.
He's a phony! A big fat phony" lol
Sorry, but I do not believe you.
Use savestate only to capture footage? Come on!
At least admit that you just use it for everything. ¬¬
I agree.
How can he say he uses save states, and then say that he doesn't use cheats?
Where I'm from, using save states IS cheating.
Thanks for coming clean on save states. I like the series (and it's a good start to my week). I'll keep watching if you keep filming. Cheers.
I got a good tv/monitor combo. It's a Samsung 2333HD. Very nice TV. Does the auto aspect ratio on HD programming. Does 1080i. Unfortunately it does not have composite video inputs so older game systems are a problem unless you spend the money on a converter (which are a pain in the ass to find and expensive if you want something of, you know, quality). I got mine at Staples for about $230 on Black Friday, and they sell them at that price regularly as well so you might be in luck.
Hey about that HD PVR 1212 I mentioned earlier. Me and my friends tried two different ones using consoles older than PS2 with composite and S-video. Each time both boxes and 3 different computers ended up failing to capture correctly. The unit captures those streams fine if using more advanced systems, but saturn and super would not allow it. We managed to get a 5 minute stream once, and ever since that we could not get it working again for more than 5 seconds without locking up.
I still like capturing 720p with component inputs and that works darn near flawlessly..... as flawless as you can get when capturing footage that is.
