Now I feel a lot better about never putting in the time to beat this game. My condolences.

Something interesting I found out about this game is that it runs on the same game engine that Metroid does. Great video, as always!

This is where I feel like you do us a great public service. I remember renting this one from Blockbuster and being horrible at it and thinking they probably faked the photos in Nintendo Power of the victory screen.

Hey Jason, great video. I loved Kid Icarus personally. Just so you know, in regards to the credit card, if you DON'T pay it off the final level will just keep looping over and over and won't let you get to Medusa until you gain enough hearts to pay it off. Found that out the hard way!

Pit did make a bad-ass appearance in super smash brothers brawl :)

He still looks like a gay angel, though.

Jason, there was a Game Boy sequel of sorts called "Kid Icarus - Of Myths and Monsters". If you think Kid Icarus on the NES is hard, you should play it on Game Boy! It makes Kid Icarus on the NES seem like a joke.

Kid Icarus on the Game Boy would also be a great title to play for your first Game Boy game on Until We Win. I have been waiting for a Game Boy game on UWW for a long time (the first Mega Man GB game would be another good choice.)

I was always curious about this game, but it looks a bit short.

P.S.
That would be Bosco the emo stealth pantless eggplant lizard wizard.

i'm terribly glad i saw this UWW. makes me realize i wasn't missing shit by having never played this game as a kid! couldn't have known that without, jason! you're jawesome!!

Kid Icarus was and still is an awesome game. The sequel on the Gameboy is one of my favorite games of all time (unlike a previous poster I think the NES Icarus is more difficult). If there was ANY old franchise that I would love to see a new installment of it would be this one.

With that being said, still loved the video.

Very cool game. I liked your walk-through. I'm going to play this on my computer right away, and see if I can finally beat this game

The Game Boy game was by far easier! If you'd fall down on the upscrolling levels, you don't die, the screens scrolls back down for example.

and the final boss was pretty awesome as far as i remember it.

definitely check out the gameboy game too :) it's good!

The idea:
You are an angel that fights with bows, arrows, magic items and powerups to take on the evil Medusa.

The concept:
"Kid Icarus" will combine the best features of Mario, Zelda and Metroid. It'll have platforming, shops and mazes that end with a boss fight. It will feature a new password system that allows players to continue at specific regions of the game.

The execution:
Punishable platforming. Mind moiling mazes. Emo eggplant evokers. Faggotry falling. Idiotic items. Bullshit bosses.

Good job beating this game, Lordkat. It's a tough one. I found it hard for the wrong reasons.

Agreed. The Game Boy Kid Icarus if easier. I just played it the first time in my life and I completed it in one evening. The only bad thing about it is the grinding.

Can't say I agree with your hating of this game. I really liked the atmosphere and the hardness was pretty moot since it was in the nes era.

I do think all the "Thank you for showing me what a shitty game this is" comments are beyond stupid. Everyone has their own tastes, blindly following that of other people or getting biassed by them is stupid.

You should really try Robo Warrior. If you like games that are like bomberman, it's going to be excellent fun... though being a nintendo game, there's obvious... difficulties you'll face.

Gonna go to my corner and cry now... I grew up with this game... :'(

Seriously? I found the bosses to be utterly pathetic, just long.
Ironically, the game is set up to be played in one go and if you can endure, it becomes very easy (minus the ball-busting platforming)...but if you die you might as well start over.

So I think of it as being the side scrolling Nethack. Minus the random chance.

A question: Did you have a lot of time to fill for this episode or did your video capture give you fits?
I ask because I saw similar footage of stage 1-1 and you fighting the Grim Reaper like 6 times.

To those still baaaawing about Save States, cheating etc...Jason is still playing the game fairly. Check out the damage he does to the bosses per hit.
In all of them, he has, at most, one strength upgrade. If he used save states to beat the game, he should have been maxed out because the upgrade rooms are nearly impossible to miss.

Finally, for what little it is worth; the Mallets actually do respectable damage to most enemies. I frequently spend mine bopping the eggplant wizards to death, because despite the risk, they can only fire either high or low.

Either way; a great video and a fun series to watch. If you're taking requests, I humbly suggest Iron Tank. You will not find many other games quite like it.

Wow, that's some harsh words at the end, usually you hear a lot of praise for the game.

Love your work Jason! Looking forward to the next gaming triumph.

I would like to suggest Section Z for NES. I had that game as a kid, and it was one of the few NES game I never beat.

Section Z is indeed a good idea. And I still say you should do Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. As for this video, great as always, Jason, but neither your comments nor your footage showed one of the most useful tricks in the whole game: that if you go through a door into a room (whether or not you plan to do anything in there), when you leave again the screen will be cleared of the enemies that were swarming around you when you entered. It makes so many levels that much less excruciating: just duck in and pop back out, and take advantage of the delay in respawning.

Hi LordKat!
I hear that The Astyanax for NES is pretty hard game!

Dang, you really seemed to hate this game. I enjoyed Kid Icarus myself. Strangely I seem to recall it being longer than this video made it seem. I thought there was another dungeon.... oh well.

Strangely I found that if you beat the whole first area... as in 1-1 through 1-4... The rest of the game wasn't too hard. I mean if you had a few upgrades and the skill to get through the first 4 stages, the rest of the game just became a little more playable. I do recall the last dungeon filling me with rage because I was eggplanted a few times near the end and the nurse was close to the beginning. Also I never played this with an emulator.... instead on Virtual Console. The eggplant wizards made me want save states badly haha.

I've always been confused though why everyone always says Pit is a gay angel. Is it for being a boy in a toga? Or is it for simply being probably the weakest angel we've ever heard of in any story/game/whatever ever?

review blaster master 2 and rygar (NES). Those were two hard games.
