If you can't watch the video, try reloading the page. It's working fine on my end. If it still doesn't work, I'll try working on it tomorrow.

Wow, last week when you said it was gonna be torture, you weren't kidding, Very nice job. Now you just gotta conquer kdenlive, then you can post a video of it called 'Until we render" :P

Dirk Daring is far too physically crippled in this game to be a hero. Apparently he would rather die than to try not to die, accepting death because he just doesn't want to move quickly. And seeing as being impacted by a lightly tossed rock will instantly kill him and a skull or bat will not, he's very selective about his failure.

"Why was Dirk flashing white during the battle with Death?"

It's a bug in the game. If you take damage - get hit by a bat or flying skull - and fire your weapon at the exact frame you take a hit, your pallet gets stuck.

I almost sent you an email asking you NOT to do this game. I'm not saying you made a bad video, but I knew a video of this game would be boring to watch (through no fault of your own) because all it is is you listing off every single little action you have to do. Awesome video, but there must be some hard games out there that are not this un-fun to play/watch. Again, I love your videos, I'm not trying to say you messed this up, you did great with the given material.

did you know for the final boss you can simply walk past it to beat the game? I saw it on a speedrun for this game. If you walk to the right before the dragon spawns you get the ending screen lol. But awesome job showing us how to beat this game man!

BaG 2.0,

I agree. I really don't wan't to do puzzle games for the series, but this game was requested SO much that I decided I had to do it.

Other, more interesting games, are coming up. :)

Have you considered doing more RPGs for your videos? From personal experience and opinions of a couple others, Dragon Quest (warrior in the English version) II is a pretty difficult RPG.

Wow this episode was great. I'm surprised you got through this game without smashing the controller against the wall (or possibly through the TV). I didn't even think this game was beatable without save states.

Would you say that this game was harder than Silver Surfer?

Just wondering...why dont your lives decrease when you die?

Good video, I like your work much more than AVGN, because he just swears and never gets very far in the game alot of the time.

Also these until you win videos are great, beacuse reading FAQs for older games is a really bad way to get them beat, if you know what I mean..well it's just nice to have some video reference.

I didn't think beating this game was possible until I saw this. Much respect. Now please do Pocky and Rocky, one of the cutest/most brutally difficult shooters ever.

Holy shit! This game is pure evil. I like how you smile a little bit when you said, "You're gonna die.. a lot." It's because you know we're waiting for you to say it since the beginning of the episode, isn't it? ^_^

Dude, Pinnacle which comes with an internal capture card is like $60. It's not the best editor by any stretch of the imagination but its better than the crap your currently using. For one, IT WORKS.

By the way, I'm very sorry you had to play this game. Seriously, your sacrifice is very much appreciated by your adoring fans.

i don't think theres a comparison to you and AVGN. I love what you do and love what he does. But the 2 of you do completely different things. With that said, great video, once again.

Did you know that shooting weapon's decreasing your HP just like touching bats? That the main reason I prefer using fireball: it is slow, but most powerful and really helps in first boss, because it kills snakes in one hit.

And by the way, that 'last' level you didn't play is easy. All you need to do is let Lizard King get half way to you, then stun him with your weapon and jump to make him fly up. Then crouch under him and jump on throne. Stun Lizard King and get to right edge of throne. Keep stuning king, while waiting for chance to grab money (you should jump, when it isn't visible). After jump Lizard King should be high enough to crouch under him. You'll probably land on first step, so it is better to jump off when going to exit.

Oh, I almost forgot. You don't need to crouch to get under gates in 1st level (I'm counting bridge as level 0).

Woohoo, Kefka's Dancing Mad for the end boss, nice choice.

To anonymous above, actualy, I think it's Gilgamesh's song, not Dancing Mad. (Clash on the big bridge, I think it's called)

Also, evil game is evil.

Now I may not know about this game but there is some shady stuff going on. I always felt like you were not following the guidelines you set for UwW.

At the Death boss fight, we first see Dirk die by one hit.

Then we see him take several hits without losing any health.

If you aren't using save states then why don't your lives decrease when you die? Shouldn't we only see clip from the run though that you beat the game with? (Except the ones where you are showing what not to do)

I'm pretty sure you are using savestates which would violate the rules you set out.

1) The skulls death shoots out are the flying skulls that take up your energy (max: 11 hits).

2) plz read the end message (After the credits) to figure out why the lines counter doesn't decrease in this episode.

I gotta say chief. Your videos are wonderful. Don't tell the others this but I actually look forward to your videos more than AVGN and Spoony. Odd?
Not really. I prefer the more subtle approach to video games. To learn of them seems more entertaining than just hearing someone complain constantly throughout the entire video about them. You're a strong man, LordKat. Don't let the bad games win.

Anonymous's picture

hey mr.kat,

Forgive my ignorance and i appreciate you putting a lil note at the end of your vid to try and clarify the whole "lives not decreasing" thing.....but how does having a rubbish video editor mean that your lives dont decrease? your scores going up....your energy is changing but lives stay the same? whats up with that?

Anonymous
Anonymous's picture

@ the above anon

My guess would be that his video editor ate his raw footage, so he used save states and/or cheats to get footage for the video, which I think is reasonable if he already beat it once without.

Anonymous
Anonymous's picture

To Anons that arguing about soundtrack in the end: Dancing Mad is when LordKat is talking about dragon, but dragon's fight has Gilgamesh's theme.

Anonymous

^^ Difficult in the extreme. :P Never made it more than maybe a little over halfway through myself, but it's not hard to give up on a game that's bad as well as hard. I mean, what's the point *Good* hard games like Super Castlevania IV are another matter. I'm up to the second quest's eighth block, and working on my own walkthrough for GameFAQ's as I go along, because that one is *worth* sticking with through the difficulty and I've picked up a lot of tricks/tips. Not that I don't think LordKat should have bothered doing Dragon's Lair; indeed, I was one of the people who requested it. :evil grin: He's dedicated himself to this sort of thing for entertainment and for his own personal satisfaction (his never having beaten these games when he was younger). Good show, LordKat, as always. Now let's see you do The Lost Levels. :evil grin:

Great video... and at long last I finally got to see how the damn game ends.

Btw, I might have a suggestion for you, Prince of persia ( the original version ) I used to play it on my pc when i was younger, never really got far in it do to 1 death = start the game over.

Dude I just wanna say you have the patience of a saint. I would never be able to beat a game like this. I'd be more likely to take the game out of the Nintendo, go to the top of the Hancock Tower and chuck it out a window watching it fall hundreds of feet to it's death. LOL

I also have a question. The music playing while you fought the final boss, the dragon, that wasn't from the game was it? It sounded an awful lot like a battle tune from one of the early Final Fantasy's. Can't remember which one specifically.

Just curious.

Keep up the great work, you've got a big fan here in Chicago. I'll even forgive you for being a Yankees fan. ^_^

I used the Battle with Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy V) and Dancing Mad, part 5 (Final Fantasy VI). Dragon's Lair by itself doesn't have enough music for a full 20+ minute episode :)

You know what this game reminds me of? There's a sketch in Robot Chicken, wherein a game show promises a reward for those who navigate though a dungeon of traps. The idea was that the first person is killed by the first trap, the second by the second trap, and so on. This is a game based around death. You die, then you figure out what's going to happen. Like those I Wanna Be The Guy games.

This isn't so much a game as it is a test of patience and memory. Anyway, excellent walkthrough. I'd use it practically if I ever feel like killing myself in frustration.

You might want to put the note at the beginning of future videos so people will complain about it less.

To those comparing to Spoony and AVGN... Well the AVGN is sheerly for humor, laughing at him cursing and making up insults about games and tearing them apart. Not beating them. UWW is almost entirely about how to beat games. Spoony seems to do a mixture of both, though is my least favorite of the 3.

Either way, good video. Sure it didn't have capability of being the best vid, but still a good video.

I've been waiting for this one. I got to the blast of air without save states and the like, but I had no idea how to make the damn thing work. Either way, this game is a joke.

It's a good review, and a nice surprise Christmas present.

Still, though, I have to ask you for one other present: PLEASE don't become another AVGN rip-off!

By that, I mean that there are loads of people who play and review bad games out there, and who show us why they suck. In fact, as good as some of them are, there are so many that I was actually RELIEVED to find your show was about beating some of the harder GOOD games out there. You know, the ones I actually CARED about beating because they're fun and seem well made. I especially enjoyed your Battletoads review, since I only ever got up to level 7 ONE time after 20+ YEARS of playing (no game genie / cheats), and watching you actually BEAT that stupid b!7(# queen in the last level took a weight off of my soul.

As nice as it is for you to prove that certain crappy games CAN be beaten, I don't want the show to turn into just that stuff. Next time, how about playing a another cool game I've never been able to beat: Super R Type for the SNES? (personal best: half way through level 3).

For the ones who are trying to compare LK, Spoony, and AVGN...

There are some very key differences between the 3. You really can't compare them as all 3 of them bring a unique trait to the table.

First we'll start with James Rolfe (AVGN). AVGN has been around for quite a while now. But you have to remember that this is only a single character in an expansive list of videos that James does to entertain us. He doesn't "just" review games. Let's just talk about AVGN since it's what James is best known for. The point of his video game reviews is to play really bad games. But a bad game can be defined by many different traits (difficulty, bad design, bad controls, bad graphics, etc) or a combination thereof. The character of AVGN himself is designed to be over-the-top yet entertaining. Add where else do you get to see people beat the snot out of shitty game characters? Now I will say that AVGN seems to be going downhill, my personal opinion is that James is probably just getting tired of doing it and really can't get into it anymore.

Now for Spoony. Noah is one of those guys that works hard and does whatever he can to entertain his audience. He loves what he does and he's good at it. That being said, reviewing video games is only a minor part of what he does. I'd say a majority of his show centers around being a funny, likeable, and average guy that loves games, movies, and a lot of other popular passtimes. He doesn't just review games...and the games he does review vary wildly from the oldest gaming systems to the newest ones. He delivers unique, fun, and brilliant dialogue in nearly everything he does without thinking he's an elitist. He whole-heartedly acknowledges when hes sucks, doesn't pull punches, and deliberately tries to piss off the fanboys...something I find whole-heartedly amusing even though I'm a fanboy myself when it comes to certain things.

Now...LordKat. LK is amazing, simply put. He busts his ass to beat incredibly hard games no matter how good or shitty they are. His skills make me jealous and thankfully, is very knowledgable about the games he puts in his videos. His shows are informative, entertaining, and helpful. But in my opinion, they can't really be described as "reviews". UWW seems to be more of an abbreviated lets play with the sole purpose of finishing a game (without cheating) and giving us, the audience, tips and tricks on how to beat insanely difficult games. But rarely do I hear him recommend or tell the audience to stay away from a game. Sure enough he gives out his previous experience with a game if there is any but he seems content most of the time to check his overall opinion of the game at the door. It seems that LKs angle is to just show you the game and how to beat it while letting you decide if you want to make the effort. It's an awesome concept...especially considering the fact that most people on the internet can't or won't show that kind of restraint.

So in essence...LordKat, Spoony, and James Rolfe have very different shows and very different styles even if the content seems similar. So really if you want to compare the 3, in my opinion, they should be compared by how much they entertain and not the specifics of what they do. And of course with most things...it's all a matter of that almighty opinion.

Spell Maker off of Bomberman 64 is probably just as hard as the dragon. That is if you are trying to get all of the gold chips in one run. Collecting all of the gold cards in that game will make you rip out your hair in unbelievable frustration.
