This series of videos is amazing. One game you could try is Holy Diver, a Japan only kind of Castlevaniaish thing. It's supposed to be amazingly hard...
I remember playing the genesis version of this game. It was only slightly easier though, but I did beat it about four times out of the countless times I attempted this game. (I was smart enough to get a crapton of lives in the second level, as I knew I was gonna need every last one of them.)
Pretty impressive. My cousin and I played battletoads off and on for a year or two. I borrowed the game from him once and made a concerted effort to complete it, but long about level 9 or so I realized I just didn't care enough to force myself through it.
I've beaten some pretty punishing NES games over the years but battletoads was always a mystery to me. It had such amazing gameplay and production values and there were so many fun cookies they included through the levels. I always wondered why it was so blind-rage-inducingly difficult. That rental thing you talked about makes a lot of sense.
Damn, you have to play all that levels...Fuck, man. I mean that's a pain in the ass for you but it was all worth while to watch it and it's a good video... Great job, man and keep it up.

I don't know about the Japanese version being easier... I've played both, and from what I can tell, the only real differences (other than language, of course) are that you start with more lives and some enemies do slightly less damage to you.
The games are pretty much the same in terms of difficulty, unlike, say, Mad City and Bayou Billy, where Mad City was so much easier that it was actually a fun game while Bayou Billy was just a slog.
But then I don't need to remind the glorious god king behind UWW of the horrors of Bayou Billy...
Hey Kat. I remember a follow up for Battletoads on the genesis, NES, and SNES; Battletoads and Double Dragon. I remember THERE was a cheatcode, but not the specific code :p, anyways I was wondering if you could give a playthrough for it?
You know i've heard clinger winger is much easier on the NES than on an emulator, mainly since the NES controller doesn't register diagonals while emulators do, this thus causes the game to think your pressing the wrong direction for a split second thus slowing you down.
Either way great job, this is probably my favorite UWW.
I was aware that there were portals that you could enter to skip to the next level, if you got to them fast enough that is. But after watching this I can't believe how many more levels their were, I only made it onto the snake level and I was playing on the game gear. Its funny though, my buddy says that the one for super Nintendo was a lot harder, when he barely played the one for Nintendo. Doesn't that just make you get into an all out rage for some reason?
