I've never once been able to connect to any of EA Online's servers. ON ANY EA GAME! I've stopped buying them.

I can hardly ever get any EA game to work. First they got that anti-privacy SecuROM which makes it a bitch to install on PC. I've bought 2 games from them that had to take back because the CD keys were no longer valid even though I bought them brand new. Getting a working ISO to run the game is damn near impossible but they make it to where you have to pirate the game even though you bought it legitimately. Then of course there's the limited amount of installs bullshit that comes with SecuROM that we all love.

When I can finally get it working it's another battle connecting online and being able to do anything without it randomly disconnecting me or my friends. We all have really good internet connections and gaming rigs so there's no reason for this except for EA having their heads up their ass. It's a cluster fuck all the way around. Just visit their forums. They have massive issues.

Well... I can't say it's the biggest disappointment ever. That belongs to Mercenaries 2 in my opinion. Gunshot blasts that look like friggin' storm trooper blasts and and a Physcis engine that's about 2/3rd's earth's gravity. But whatever, Bad company 2 was designed for multiplayer and to knock off MW2.

Alot of games recently have been pretty overrated in my opinion. The big 2 war titles, Modern Warfare 2 and Bad Company 2 have really turned out to be nothing but overpriced multiplayer map packs...with extremely short campaigns and very few amounts of new gameplay aspects. Seems like all shooters are starting to follow the same line as Halo: ODST....and just toss out the bare minimum, and squeeze as much money out of us as possible.

Games have been being released half assed and basically broken on most levels, which they just seem to rush out and fix later through patches. Really becoming an issue....and I hope they cut the bullshit soon.

Yeah that single player really blows. Multiplayer is a good bit of fun, when you're able to get on and stay on. I got it for 360 and will be trading it in Monday. God damn impulse purchases.

Remember Mirrors Edge? That game was fucking short and they asked full price for it. Typical EA. DeadSpace was fine though, anything else from EA, just fuck them. Assholes like Activision.

Anonymous
Anonymous's picture

That sounds about right. The single player was short and disappointing, but I've been having a lot of fun with the multiplayer... WHEN I can connect. Hopefully they fix the connection problems sometime in the near future, because the game is definitely fun when you can actually get into a game. The amount of server downtime so far is outright embarrassing though.

Okay, I don't usually comment on your videos (which are awesome, btw), but I gotta ask... did you actually do this, or did you just record talking into a phone for the sake of a video?

Because if you did... I mean... damn! You have some serious balls, as they say.

As for EA... I'm still a bit angry at them for fucking up Spore, so... yeah.

I only had connection issues on Wednesday but haven't had any since. I can always get into games and play with my friends. Yeah I do agree with you that the Campaign AI is really bad and there 90 snipers in every match but BC2 is a good game so far only because I hate MW2 because it is like Marvel Super Heroes.

Anonymous

Then I suppose I will let this title slip and get Dante's Inferno + God Of War 3 first. And maybe buy Bad Company 2 when it has drastically decreased in price.

Anonymous

Wait a minute.. You announced your new PC a while ago on your Twitter-feed, which is perfectly fine to run BC2. Why the hell did you buy it for the 360?
I mean, its not only Pad vs Mouse, but also 70 bucks vs 45 bucks..

Tbh, it was a bit harsh. The game itself is great. All the previous ones (not counting the bastard child BF: Vietnam) have been great, but now that they always need to use "EA"s fail net, it goes down hill fast. I have the pc version and I have played about 10 hrs MP all n all. And about 2 hrs single player, and I don't really care for the campaign, it's like you said like the other recent games in this type. I agree they have to fix the servers, but it's something that has happened now that it whent retail. I played the beta on both the PS3 and pc and had no connection problems what so ever. So I bet it's a overload somewhere. Of course they could of forseen this, since there has been a lot of beta feedback and anticipations. I reckon they'll fix the problems soon and you'll get your 70dollars worth. Btw where the hell did you buy that for 70 bucks :O
I paid like 40 for my pc version and it's the "Limited Edition".

I don't get you. You're comparing Mercs 2 with MW2? Or BFBC2 with Mercs 2?
And on a sidenote, Battlefield 2 came before MW and MW2. And they are similar yet so very different.

He probably didn't wanna deal with the piracy protection security EA infects all their games with. You don't have to deal with that on a 360.

I know how you feel Jason. Here in Finland renting games was made illegal in the 90's ,so i always have to do a lot of research on the games i'm going to buy , but when alot of sites gave it great reviews i was expecting a good game and paid 60 euros for a pile of shit you grow up to become this cynical bastard.

Great video by the way.

I know I'll get shit for this, but I've had the game since March 2 (XBOX 360), got it at a midnight Gamestop release, and I've played 25 hours since then and only had 3 desktop crashes, but no problem connecting and finding games at all.
My friend got the game too and he has only had a couple of desktop crashes also. We've also had no problem creating a squad and joining it and playing together.
One thing I did find strange was I took my game over another friend's house to show it to him and when he tried to connect to a server it wouldn't connect. I thought this might be because we were logged in under his user name and therefore he didn't have the code for the limited edition entered. So we logged out of his name, recovered my gamertag that had the code entered and then had no problem connecting to a game.
I love the multiplayer and I don't understand why people cry about what class people use. I used to play battlefield 2 on the pc and I could have cared less what people used. I even understood the people who would camp the jets and just fly the whole game doing nothing else.
The sad fact is console games has become just like pc games. Every game released is unfinished and needs patching. I hate it, but I understand it. The companies need to make money and get the games out. It seems like when they delay the games they end up being garbage anyway. So while I do feel like I'm getting used as a free beta tester I still mostly enjoy playing the games.
My biggest complaint about Bad Company 2 is not being able to get my veteran status to work so I can have my M1 Garand unlock!
I think you were much too harsh in your review of the game Jason.

This guy is a moron. This game was meant for MULTIPLAYER, not SINGLEPLAYER. I could careless if you guys will spout out "BUT IT STILL HAS SINGLEPLAYER" So? Your point? If you are going to play a game, that is meant for online play, only for single player, you fail at buying games. Period. And your opinion is moot towards it.

When you can get into this game? You sure it isn't your ISPs fault? I have had NO troubles connecting to this game since I have had it. I bet it is on your end and not theirs.

80-90 snipers? What are you guys doing? Dancing out in the open? This proves that this guy is a total noob when it comes to this game. This isn't a "Run out into the open, towards the objective" bullshit. It is "Hide, sneak around, towards the objectives" Seriously, are you that bad at this game that you are getting picked off by snipers? REALLY? DO YOU SUCK THAT MUCH? Learn to use your crouch button and hide behind objects. You can tell who the noobs are, and those are the ones who are getting picked off by snipers.

This game is meant for squad play. There are 4 of you. FOUR. How hard is it to watch everyones back? IT IS NOT HARD. Oh shit, you know theres a sniper off in the distance? You have a recon on your team who doesn't know where he is? PRESS YOUR Q/Select/XBOX BUTTON.

You guys suck at such an easy to understand game. Go back to playing halo if this game is too hard for you kiddies.

Dude I'm so happy I have no money right now, so I cant buy shite that wont work, cause these new games need too much processor speed, too much graphic memory and I dont know what. So I would have to buy a new pc cause of some piece of shit game, while I have way more fun playing some playstation games on my ps1

Only games I bought new where the expansions for World of warcraft.. And I didn't like them that much.:P

I feel for you lord, next time just buy another baconator, or like 14 ;)

PS: Stick to playing your FPS on the PC Jason.

Look up what opinion means. And "moot", while you're at it.

"You guys suck at such an easy to understand game. Go back to playing halo if this game is too hard for you kiddies."
That's odd, seeing as Halo and Bad Company 2 are both in the same league. In fact, those probably make up for the majority of the players in this game.

Actually, that thing you described about having cool maps then getting a random writer to string them together?

That's pretty much exactly what happens for anything that isn't an RPG.

It's also not the head dev's fault that the servers are down, that's usually the publisher's realm, or marketing. Certainly not the head dev though. And if you said the game itself is great, well, that's what he's responsible for.

Look I think the game is just another shitty FPS (I don't mean FPS' aren't good, I just mean most of them are the same trash), wouldn't play it even if someone gave me it, etc, but, I don't know, maybe it's just me but when someone gives humorously-intended critique on a game and all the critique is just rubbish it pretty much saps the humour.

Especially since some of the people here seem to be actually regarding it as a serious review.

BC2 and MW2 were both awesome games though... can't really complain too much about the campaign, at least on my end, 5-10 hours isn't too bad for an FPS with such a heavy multiplayer component.. Heck, I remember when we bought FPSes ( or pseudo FPSes like the first doom ) that had shorter campaigns and absolutely no multiplayer for not much less money.

But your comment reads more like the typical spew about any game a company like EA ever releases, regardless of quality.

Er... why would you ( pretend ) to complain to DICE about server uptime on your 360 when that's handled by Electronic Arts and Microsoft?

"Look I think the game is just another shitty FPS"

It's not, it's pretty amazing.. but it's sort of sad that you'd call a game so awful that you wouldn't play it for free without having ever touched it yourself >_> , think the anon above me was right.

"He probably didn't wanna deal with the piracy protection security EA infects all their games with"

BC2 doesn't use SecuRom though...

Would be nice in the future if you review new games you actually review the game itself, guess you sorta glossed over SP.. but that's about it... and it's a bit amusing the way you complain about the character's being stereotypical, when that's the whole point >_>, would be like complaining that weird al's songs are parodies.. or that super mario has too much platforming.

Oh, forgot to ask: Why'd you pay 70 bucks for it? The retail price is $59.99

Sounds very similar to my experience with Bioshock 2. Multiplayer is very broken, which is extra annoying because it is very fun when it works.

The Single player was good, though I had to work for a couple hours to make it work right by finding fixes that were buried in the 2k forums. I think it is funny that they assume that anyone who could dig as deep as I did wouldn't think of driver updates before doing tons of research.

What is with companies releasing broken games then being surprised by consumer backlash? Would it really kill them to wait another month, do some extended beta tests, and really stand behind their product?

EDIT: This comment is directed at an anonymous commenter further up the page that calls Jason a moron and a noob...just wanted to clear that up...anywho.

You're an idiot. First off, he didn't say he was playing the game just for single player, he said that he couldn't get into the multiplayer reliably, so he felt like he bought half a game. Second, the game is not meant for multiplayer. If it was, it'd be a multiplayer-only game with a brief offline training campaign (like Chromehounds, for example). Your assumption is just your opinion, not an iron-clad fact.

The connection issues are NOT on his end. I own the 360 version, and the MOTD scrolling at the bottom of the BC2 main screen is that the servers were experiencing connection issues. EA admits to the problem and is working to rectify it. Again, you're an idiot.

Only newbies get picked off by snipers? I'm one of those 90 snipers, and I can tell you that sneaking rarely helps, particularly since I can call down mortars almost anywhere within my LOS. On top of that, your "Q/Select/Xbox Button" idea is great...except that my teammates can do that to you, as well. I have blind-sniped MANY people after my teammates spotted them for me. You're an idiot cubed.

Also, in Hardcore mode, there is no enemy indicator (unless you press start to bring up the map), even when enemies are spotted. Since no one survives the first shot (in Hardcore, weapons do more damage), they don't get any indicator of where the shot came from.

On a side note, why are you whining about how he should be using more teamwork after he listed the inability to get his party into a squad as one of his complaints?

For the fourth and final time, you are an idiot. You are every jackass that gives multiplayer games a bad name.

What you posted is one of the most insanely idiototic things I have ever read. At no point, in your rambling, incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this site is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

All of that aside, however, I have to say I disagree with Jason on a few points. I enjoyed the hell out of single player, even though the difficulty seems very random in the railed shooter portions, and the checkpoints are very unforgiving at times. The entire premise is supposed to feel cliche, right down to the Sergeant who's two days from retirement (or two days *past* retirement). It's a semi-parody of COD4 ("C'mon, sarge, if we don't go, they'll just send some pussy Special Forces guys with hearbeat sensors on their guns")...but I admit it's pretty short, and the plot seems like some key scenes are just...missing. For instance, the canister from the beginning contains a compound that shields against the affect of the EMP? Also, why does the EMP make that weird noise? How did the ship wind up in the desert? Why is there a polar bear on the island?

Maybe some of those points are explained, but I missed it...I dunno. I also have had very few connection problems, and only at the end of marathon play sessions. I think the difference is that I don't play with a party, though...there's only my 360 that it has to synch with when I join a game, not 3 other people.

Regardless, I thought this was a very funny review style. And...um...were you talking into your mouse?
