Meetup 2012 - LAN Party: what games?

I'm playing with the idea of running a LAN Party for the next mafia meetup, which should take place sometime in October.

If we do run a LAN Party, I need to know the following:

What games would you like to play over the course of a weekend (friday night to monday morning)?
What would you like to do OTHER than playing PC games?
Would you like a tabletop gaming second (card games/tabletop games)?

Other than playing games, if you were to come to this LAN Party, WHY would you come?

How much would you be willing to pay to attend a weekend-long meetup?

I know for a fact that if

I know for a fact that if there is a meetup this year I am definitely going. Also, my boyfriend (TehDrZed) is planning to fly over from scotland to go as well so there will be both of us going. Both of us love L4D and I don't play much of magick but TehDrZed does. I don't really like games like COD or MW but most of the other games I can play without a problem.

Other than PC games, maybe people can bring their ps3s or xbox 360s and people can play with those as well. I have you don't know jack for the ps3 and we could always do some sort of competition for certain games too :) Other than games in general, maybe there can be a q & a at some point for the main people running the LKM.

Table top games would be a fantastic idea especially for me who can probably only bring one pc for me and TehDrzed so I can play something on the side with someone else. I can bring a board game if you wish. I have 1980s trivial pursuit and I'm trying to learn more and more about not only D&D but magick as well. I suck at both though, so we'll see how that will go lol.

If it's gonna be held in new york, it will be a definite reason for me to go there for a change and I'd love to go. I would pay up to 60 if i had to for the weekend. Dunno if we can get any discounts on rooms for hotels or anything though so I guess in the future we'll find out about that too. As long as it's not TOOO bad for pricing for hotels around the area I'm pretty sure TehDRzed and I will be going for sure!

also, PLUSHIES!!!!!If you have any idea if you want to do something with them for it let me know! i wouldn't mind trying to set something up!

LAN party

Games i'd like to play: Classic quake, doom, tribes, maybe some halo

What I'd like to do OTHER than pc games: Drink, talent contests?, kareokee?

I'd be up for some card games/tabletop, depending on which ones.

Most I'd be willing to pay being an average joe with a minimum wage job, perhaps $100 max

As to why I would come, it would be to meet fellow members of the community in person. For the past 2 years, I've been a member of this community, and never felt judged, ridiculed, or treated unfairly. It's had it's ups and downs, but we all support each other's rights to just chill out and have a good time.

I registered just for this

I registered just for this reason. anyway answers!

1) Halo, Call of Duty, Goldeneye 64, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead.

2) Id like to go take a trip around the city, maybe go to a movie, and if anything, visit the waystation bar.

3) As for tabletop gaming, id like to possibly do magic the gathering, D&D, All Flesh Must be eaten, etc

4) Other than the gaming, I would mainly come to visit the people of the site.

5) I would probably be willing to pay about 40 - 75 bucks in full for access.

I'd pretty much be up for any game. I'd be coming just to visit NY and meet the community. Tabletop gaming would be huge, too. Maybe show a film or two ... would you be open to the possibility of this being the debut spot for a film or short that I'd film prior to this, pending your approval of course.

I'll probably go $500-600, give or take.

Lan party thoughts

would love to see classic games like doom/quake/tribes etc on pc. board games like trivial pursuit someone mentioned are a wonderful IDea, I have a monopoly board I can bring as well.

Also some console gaming competitions would be awesome! a tournament of sorts with a prize maybe?

and alcohol (away from all the wires and non-liquid friendly shenanigans). (for those 21 and over of course)

As far as the why - making friends through a computer screen and all is nice, however, there are times where actually meeting the people you are associated with face to face can be an extremely great experience, especially when we're all doing things we enjoy doing for a weekend.

as far as price - me being a poor college student I'd love to pay around 50-60 bucks, however I may be able to dish out around 100 if extremely necessary (this excluding hotel fees of course)

1. Any game is fine really. I fully admit my laptop probably cant run most of the stuff on the PC, but older stuff like Tribes, Quake, Doom, or maybe League of Legends if it runs in a room with five people.

2. I'm always up for any type of entertainment. As I said I can contribute supplies, consoles, etc. for the event. This also ties into board/tabletop games as well, I can bring them as well. They are always fun and if we get like a huge room with everything in it i'm sure it would be a good time.

The why is simple, I like having a good time with people. Why not be social with those we talk to every day in the chatroom, or with you dude.

Price...$100-$200, although I can go higher if necessary.

I'd attend, if time,

I'd attend, if time, location, and funds allowed. (Part of the problem with a LAN party is -getting- there; I'm not really sure how easily one can fly a PC with them and if they even should.) I may not be able to stay more than a day or so, depending on circumstances. Poor guy I am.

A 'fair' price would depend really on a few things, like if there's a plan to provide amenities (food, bev, swag) and what your overhead is. I'd say $50 a day, personally (or $100 overall if there's no plan to offer 'day passes'; I'm gathering this would be Saturday/Sunday only) would be the best spot. Much more and you'll leave people behind, less and you may not cover costs, especially with equipment rentals--networking and power distribution aren't necessarily cheap.

Would there be an outgoing internet feed? Likely too expensive, all in all, but Steam doesn't play well without one. Contests, maybe?

I'd come largely because I like LAN parties and haven't been to one in a long, -long- time. And I trust the LKM to pull one off competently.

Boardgames and consoles would go over well, especially for those who aren't as PC inclined (or couldn't bring one).

Lan party idea

If the LAN idea comes to the point games be decided id go for Battlefield 1942, Day of defeat, Counter strike, UT2k4, and quake mostly cause it's games many computers would be able to play it, I wouldn't say no to Team fortress 2 or any other kind of multiplayer game.

Other than PC games I dunno, get a TV, get some people drunk and let them play mario 64 battle mode.

and regarding the tabletop/card games idea I don't think I would miss it if it wasn't there but id probably check it out if there where.

Why I would come, well to have fun of course and play games also be able to say I went to the U.S to go to a LAN (and to be able to tell the other people this side of the Atlantic that going 12835 km there and back for a meetup that people living in N.Y couldn't do isn't that hard to do)

and to pay, well around 100 to maybe 150 dollars (if i count my currency numbers right) but then if I manage to show up i don't think that the entrance fee will be the hardest part for me to pull of.

Made an account just to post here.

I'd come up to NY from where I live in PA to participate in the LAN party with a friend or two, we'd probably be willing to pay around $100-200 dollars not including Hotel/Travel etc. As for games that I'd like to play, probably the run of the mill LAN PC stuff would be cool. Other than playing PC games, some console games would be cool, like fighting games (SF4 comes to mind.) and I'd even be willing to bring my PS3 to be able to do this kind of thing. As for tabletop gaming? Hell yeah. I play a whole ton of M:TG and I've been starting to get into playing D&D so even if it was a short campaign it would be cool to play a bit. Also as with other posters, timing is crucial aswell. Summer would be the best bet for me.

A small problem

A problem I can forsee with a LAN is the transportation of computers. For example, people outside the US who want to go wont be able to easily and cheapily take their computers with them. That being said, I would still set aside money and try and go to the meetup if only to meet the people in the community. I am curious about where the people sleep. Will hotel rooms and whatnot be arranged or is that up to each individual to sort out?

Well I will try my damndest to be able to make it over to the meetup for this year. If not for the games, would be an awesome chance to meet people from the chat and get to see how they are. I'd also try and drag YellowJacketGuy IF his schedule is willing.

For PC games, maybe Castle Defenders, Sword of the Stars, MTG, TF2. I've never been to a LAN party so it would be interesting.

For the Tabeltop games, I could bring some board games, CCG's, Pathfinder books and such.

A LAN party would be great.

A LAN party would be great. But since I'd be flying across the country, I don't think I'd want to bring my system. And I don't have an XBox or PS3 because I prefer PC gaming :(

Boardgames would be awesome. Always wanted to play BSG ever since Spoony showed it ;) And I'd be willing to learn how to play a tabletop RPG if people don't mind dragging an absolute newbie along for the ride.

There should also be poker tournaments. Strictly legal of course. Just for chips (which would later be secretly exchanged for cash ;))

I'd come mostly just to hang out and have some fun. Be a nice mini-vacation, and October tends to be a quiet month at work, so good time to get away.

How much I'd pay for the meetup itself depends on the cost of airfare and hotel. How much are hotels/motels in the area? And would we be having it in NY for sure? I remember Virginia being mentioned in another thread.

I'd say $50 would be a good round figure. Maybe up to $100 if it was needed for food/drink/booze/whatever. But $20-$50 is probably going to be what most in the Mafia will be able to afford. And I don't mind if it's partially or fully non-refundable. If I can't go, oh well. And it'll at least go towards everyone else having a good time.

1. All of the games above and

1. All of the games above and games within those categories!!!

2. We could hold raffles, contests, do some improve, do some comedy, if a bunch of us want to head to the movies for a night maybe that could be arranged? I am just throwing some ideas out there. =] Oh, maybe people could bring some old school systems, have them set up? Nothing like having some old school and new school games being played t once!

3. I'll put it this way; Card games: YUS! Board games: HELL YUS! I can bring a couple things like Battleship, Monopoly, etc if I am able to go!

I would come to see the LK Mafia! We are a community and I want to see them face to face, mono y mono, etc! I would also come to have fun and all that jazz =P.

Pay? I heard tickets may be about $25-$30. That itself just for the ticket sounds pretty damn perfect for me. I would then bring a couple of $100's for hotel, food, etc.

-Several classic games as

-Several classic games as have been listed already; personally I didn't get to do much LAN partying when I was growing up, so a lot of the rounds of DooM, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc. passed me by for various reasons. As well, it would let some of the younger Mafia members to get to play the defining games of a genre. I'd personally play FPS titles, as I'm no good at RTS games.

-I think a sort of impromptu Q&A panel would be cool. Depending on who you have there you could even have a TWIG with Skitch or a How To Do It with Nash. I don't know if a live UWW would work, but perhaps with sufficient alcohol it could be hilarious.

-Tabletop ought to be a definite, especially with you streaming RDI and Arkham Horror lately. See if you can get some trustworthy and knowledgeable people to run demo games for board games and maybe even wargames if there's space available (the latter can take up quite a bit of space unless its skirmish-level games such as Warmachine or Malifaux).

-I would attend simply to attend! Some of the people in the community seem like very chill people. And though I've contributed only a tiny bit to the site via UWW when it was open-source, I'd like to think I could somehow give more at a live occasion. Maybe as one of the aforementioned demo-runners.

-Aside from the usual travel expenses and hotel reservations, standard convention price--between $35 and $50.

I would not mind seeing some Starcraft 2, as for other games, Warhammer40K would be fun, some Magic the gathering shenanigans is always cool.

I think a LAN would be fun

I think a LAN would be fun time. However I'm not really sure if I will be able to go this year. Depends on how budget and college and employment play out. I want to go, I just can't count myself "in" just yet.

I think console games could be fun too. Some Mario kart, Smash bros, maybe some Rock Band and some Madden.

I think table top games could be fun too. some risk, chess, some DnD, or other RPGs

I am aware that many of these games may not make it to the LAN. They are just ideas.

I think the highest I could go is 100$ for the event. And that is not counting hotel, gas, food, drinks, etc.

It's a fun idea right now. This will be pretty tough to put together. I'll raise my glass to you if you can make it happen.

Well....

I can only requote Jere's posts for myself sense we are pretty much in the same situation.

And the expense for the LAN is the least of my expenses, so what ever is needed I'll pay it.
(Within reason of course)

A magicjade and crazywarlock appear!

1) Games I'd like to play over the course of a weekend: I'm not into PC gaming, to be honest (I'm more of a console person); I'll probably just watch others play. Crazywarlock will play anything.

2) What I'd like to do other than playing Playing PC games: Hanging out with Mafia members (take advantage of the hotel pool if applicable, for example, maybe walk around the area around the hotel because this will be the first time crazywarlock and I would be in the New York area).

3) Tabletop gaming: Yes. We can bring some tabletop games over too.

4) Reason coming to this party: Hanging out with the very community that brought crazywarlock and I together as a couple AND husband and wife. :) (we'll be married by then)

5) Financial details: Travel and food costs aside, probably $300-500 at absolute most (between hotel and LAN room costs)

My Answers

1. Since We're all participating, I suggest we get something more interactive and more than 8 players...

-Serious Sam 2 and 3 have 16 Player Co-op,
-Worms Arageddon with 18 Players or
-GTA: San Andreas has 500 Multiplayer Co-op with a mod http://www.sa-mp.com/download.php

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cooperative_video_games

if there's nobody that wants to do co-op, just pick a good multiplayer game.

2. Since we're a community, I suggest we use it to our advantage. Do something as a group like prank calls or riff on a Public Domain Movie or something like that.

3. As long as we have a good GM or The Board game has simple rules, I would participate in a Board game

4.To cover a Computer Cafe/Room Fee for a weekend would be expensive. maybe $30-40 depending on the amount we have. I don't live in America (I'm in Canada) so, I would be able to help someone pay for a hotel room.

I'm interested in visiting,

I'm interested in visiting, but since I'm from England there will be one main problem. I will not be able to take any super machine with me, but I do have a laptop that should play games from 2006(very well) and before.

1) The games I'd like to play would be TF2, Serious Sam *Encounters and 2; and pretty much up for anything as long as the el cheapo laptop can handle it.

2) If this event takes place in and around NYC I wouldn't mind having a tour :3 Other things would clearly be seeing other people.

3) Tabletop gaming is interesting and I wouldn't mind a section where I can sit and watch/listen to other people playing.

Why would I come? I need a good excuse to get myself to go on holiday :3

Pay? D: no free pass? xD I'd be happy to put between $100 and $200 towards the meetup, even if I can't attend in the end.

meetup

1. i can bring my xbox with me, because it much smaller than my PC. So i can play any games, but more likely some challenging things, like racing games or sport simulators. also i'd like to play CoD and Battlefield, so we can make a team and troll everyone till they ragequit XD

2. other than playing: watch some movie or make WAT-live, and then talk about it. i think it would be fun.

3. i dont know much about tabletop gaming, but, for me, it would be interesting to watch.

4. yeah thats the main thing: since i live in the middle of fucking nowhere, if i will come to meetup, i want to see more people like: arclight, rollo_t, nash, horror and others )) this would be main booster for me ))

i already have money for tickets, passport and living so i think i can spend 30$ to enter party. anyway i'm going to spend much much more )))

Sigh...

I have NY comic con in October 12-14 but It's January so plenty of time to save up and might be able to go to both. Also give me time to save for a laptop for myself because there's no way I'm bringing my PC anywhere, can bring something like a ps3 or wii. want to go more older than that? I have an N64, gamecube, even a nintendo if i still have all the wires lol. I don't normally travel outside of the new york area, mostly since I can be so timid. If I manage to get some friends to come, it would be more comforting.

For gaming, I'm more of watcher of game play than one that would actually play games (if that makes any sense). Of course i do play games, mostly Fiesta and Luvinia Online, Champions (Fountain party anyone?,) and Terraria. I don't like FPS for two reasons, I'm terrible at them, and I get motion sickness if i play too long. I don't play any tabletop games either. I have a 3ds, not much games though with just Nintendogs and Ocarina of time. The other games I wouldn't mind playing is Karaoke Revolution, guitar hero, and DDR.

As for payment, it depends on how much i can save but as I mention before there's enough time to save up, maybe $250-$300 altogether. More likely to pay in cash, while I do use credit card for online use, Idk about using credit cards since I always paid in cash whenever I go out.

So why would I bother coming? Well, it would nice to get out of the apartment for a weekend, meeting people, maybe bring some Bomar or Bubblefish plushies to give away XD. Think that's all I can think of atm.

LAN Party

I'm usually just a lurker, but I figured I'd make an account and post simply for this:
My boyfriend and I would LOVE to go if it were held somewhere in the Midwest/Eastern US area (NY/PA/OH or some state that's somewhere around that vicinity)

As far as games go:
TF2 and L4D 1 and 2 are pretty safe choices. Usually when I hold LAN parties we play a lot of Co-op games or multi-player games, even resorting to playing the original Halo or even Golden Eye. I also usually have some consoles set up for people (like myself) who are anti social and don't like multi-player games.

If this thing does become a for-certain event (and is close enough for me to actually drive to) I would be more that willing to bring my extra computers. I have about 3 extras I could bring with me that are specifically set up for gaming. I also have about every console game system imaginable which I could bring for those who are interested in console gaming along with some TV's to use for said consoles.

If people are more interested in table top gaming I have a lot of materials I could bring for that as well including D&D (3.5), Call of Cthulhu, and Star Wars. If people just want quick games that don't need a lot of preparations I also have Munchkins games, Illuminati, Arkham Horror and the mass amount of board/card games that could be played on the fly.

Again -- I'm limited to where this is going to be located as to bring all of these things I'd need to be able to use my car to get there.

Other than gaming I would love to go to this LAN party just to make some new friends and actually be social in the community for a change. ^_^' Like I said, I tend to lurk and just watch the stream, but I do keep pretty active in what's going on. My fiance is pretty active on the TF2 server as well (bunnyboybrando) but never goes into the chat.

As far as willing to pay: For the actual event itself I'd be willing to pay between 50 and 100 dollars (per person) which wouldn't include hotel obviously. I guess I'm basing that on how much 3 day passes for a lot of festivals and conventions go for.

What games would you like to play over the course of a weekend (friday night to monday morning)?
Starcraft 2,I'm hoping the expansion will be out by October. Though, there's no LAN option in that game. Maybe you'll wanna make a LKM custom channel. If someone doesn't have a blizzard account, I wouldn't mind letting them take my seat after I log in.

What would you like to do OTHER than playing PC games?
Chat.
Would you like a tabletop gaming second (card games/tabletop games)?
Yea! Anything but Monopoly.

Other than playing games, if you were to come to this LAN Party, WHY would you come?
Food. Maybe we can ask everyone bring 1 item and do some kind of junk food potluck thing. We do this at my Jets meetup whenever we go to a bar that doesn't serve food and we always get an awesome spread.

And maybe music!

How much would you be willing to pay to attend a weekend-long meetup?

$0 - $50

Hi a representative of Sweden

Hi.
Another representative of Sweden here.

What games would you like to play over the course of a weekend (friday night to monday morning)?
Games I'd like to play over a weekend - The mafia games, tf2, l4d2 and almost anything 'cept MMOs

What would you like to do OTHER than playing PC games?
Pruy. gaems. drunk.

Would you like a tabletop gaming second (card games/tabletop games)?
Sure, a tabletop game would be fun. Maybe you guys could hold a wyrmwick session live.

Other than playing games, if you were to come to this LAN Party, WHY would you come?
To meet other people in the mafia!

How much would you be willing to pay to attend a weekend-long meetup?
The price, If I do show up, entrence fees would be the least of my concerns.

I have a question. Is it possible to rent computers over the weekend? Maybe from a gaming cafe or something like that? I can imagine getting a computer through to the US may in the worst case scenarios cause some problems for international mafiosos.
Maybe it's even possible to rent a gaming/internet cafe over the weekend and set up the entrence fees to cover the rental price?

xoxo

What games would you like to

What games would you like to play over the course of a weekend (friday night to monday morning)?
I have no idea what my laptop can handle... But TF2 and L4D always fun. If my laptop can't handle any games at all then I'll just sulk in a corner and play some games on my DS. If anyone is able to set it up, Guitar Hero or Band Hero games could work.

What would you like to do OTHER than playing PC games?
Movie time! Watch some terribad (or so bad it's good) movie and just make fun of it.

Would you like a tabletop gaming second (card games/tabletop games)?
I could bring a deck of cards and some pokechips if anyone's interested.

Other than playing games, if you were to come to this LAN Party, WHY would you come?
Meet other Mafia Members and make my existence in the LK Live chat seem less pathetic.

How much would you be willing to pay to attend a weekend-long meetup?
Besides the hundreds of dollars it would cost to actually go there, 10-20 Dollars, I guess.
