My original idea was for subs to get voice during shows and run the show in voice mode, Horror cam up with a whole new IRC for subscribers which ever happens it would be nice and i would pay for that bonus
I would like to see stream in 720p or better in 1080p, because i'm using 32" LCD screen as monitor. Also i would like to see some difference in LK's gamelist. What comes for special content, if LordKat do not like editing stuff, maybe he can just record some comments on latest releases and put the video on restricted part of the site, no editing, just some screenshots of the game or pictures of new device, and audio comments. I do not care about different chatroom's, I dont speak too much.
hmm, the classical solution for entertainer subscriptions on the net is some memmorablia, artwork comissions, blahblahblah etc. which is... well... meh, so going either with having the voice / some other priviledges on the stream or with some sort of special videos not for public would be better ideas. I cannot say either of them is anything most NORPs would agree to pay for, given the nature of the entertainment people have on this site (well, maybe they will, heck, even snuggies get sold, why not something that actually IS fun). Basicaly, you could use some PR in this case.
Really, what you produce from a business point of view are shows. To get money from these shows you can either A) get sponsors and run more ads B) Make videos that people must pay to see (this is hard on the internet with piracy being so prevalent) or C)Creative solutions. Since A is tough to do and B seems to rub you wrong its time to get creative.
I have seen podcasts who have sponsors that pay for a plug or two during shows. Tuesday Tech Talk has the most potential for getting sponsors since it's more or less a current news show on the tech industry. This week in games also has potential but I don't know how many developers are out there that are willing to do a little podcast show with you.
If you have no dignity at all, you could wire cameras around your room to allow premium users 100% full time at will streaming from different angles. But you might be a little creeped out selling a stream so people can watch you sleep.
The next option is that the pooptracker does well. I know it sounds retarded but it is very possible it could be a huge hit and sell. If that brought in 10k+ in revenue it should solve a lot of your problems but no idea how realistic that is.
A lot of this depends on your user base. The bigger the base the easier it is to get a little money from each and meet your expenses and the easier it is to sell to sponsors that it is worth their time. What you honestly need to do, LK, is figure out what your brand is going to be. Who do you appeal to now and who do you want to appeal to more, how you can keep your base while broadening your appeal, etc. I think you're on the right track in trying to fill a niche in the tech/video world with true reporting but you're going against some big players such as IGN.
Have you thought about taking some of the better bloggers and asking them if they would do a weekly column?
are you freaking pervert? you want to see LordKat from different angles? you gonna buy pooptracker? He said - it's a joke. Stop talking about this app.
from what you say, i've got only one good point - to improve your shows (like TTT and TWIG) and get some sponsors.
I think having access to the archive, HD streaming, an exclusive IRC chatroom and having the ability to skip ads is good enough for the core content of the subscription.
You could also add extras to the subscription. These extras wouldn't be the main reason you'd subscribe, because they will eventually be shared among non-subs, but that's not going to be a problem because the extras are only there to complement the main subscription content. It would be similar to how gog.com includes bonus content with the games they sell.
Examples of neat (semi)exclusive extras: a collection of sound bites (made specifically for the extras and not just highlights from the stream), art/wallpapers (commissioned works from the stream artists), soundtrack of the shows (in case the shows are ever going to have themes), a compilation of some of the good blog posts (both by LK and the community) under the form of an ebook etc.
This isn't exactly a suggestion for content but, it would be nice if there was some sort of per year subscription. Personally, I would rather pay $50~$60ish once a year than to do the $5 per month.
