Lassela Karnak was born to a deep-sea fisherman. She learned the basics of catching fish and sailing vessels at a young age. At the time she had thought her father to be the strongest creature in the world, able to hold the mightiest fish and overpower it as the bitter cold of the waves crashed against the ship, yet still have the inner-strength afterward to teach of the wonders of knowledge and how the ability to understand made life easier for all around. But As she grew older, she observed how powerful some of the larger fish they caught were and how even her father, strong as he was, couldn't always wrangle the sea-beasts long enough for them club the fish. She observed different occasions where he would find himself hurt or in need of help.

Years passed and Lassela grew stronger as her father grew weaker. It had come to pass that her father needed more and more help while she found herself capable of handling many things on her own. She could hold even the greatest fish and knock them out easily at the same time. Her father observed his daughter's prowess and came to a decision. After a particularly disappointing day where the fish would not bite, he said to her, "My little shark, you are too talented to live the life of a humble fisherwoman. You can achieve much more and you would make me very proud if you set out into the world, to achieve that which I never had the courage to pursue."

Lassela, 16 at the time, pondered these words heavily. She had at the time only known sailing, fishing and the stories her father had told her of his youth. He would of tell how her mother, great as their respect for one another, could not be complacent to a repetitive life of fishing and had left to pursue her own adventures, though she would occasionally write and send various trinkets and treasure back to them. Lassela had always wondered how her mother could leave her father like that, but she looked now to a man that was growing old and simply wasting away as he lost his strength, having never used it for anything but fishing.

Ultimately Lassela agreed to heed her father's wish and, using what money they had, set out to train formally in the military of the nation. She excelled at grappling and wielding weapons at the same time and was found by her instructors to be a rare individual indeed. Powerful and striking of body, but level and thoughtful of mind. She performed a two-year tour of service for the nation, but despite offers of promotion, declined to pursue a military career, stating that she wished to see and learn more of the world. Inwardly, she wished to understand what her mother had thought and felt, journeying through the world.

She spent her next several years as a mercenary, acting as hired muscle for those that wished to have a body-guard or someone to watch their back in a variety of situations. She came to observe and understand many kinds of people, motivations, concepts and perspectives. She found the whole thing invigorating and often enjoyed the sense of learning new things while constantly having her strength challenged. There was then a call for aid in a war, across the sea in a far away land, a land only scarcely known, a new world. Lassela spoke with a recruiter and before long, she was in a small room with a monk, a cleric and an eldritch knight as a dwarf told them what they were going to do.
