I heard about this film from a host of a podcast, he's really into this and gave an overview of the movie.
From his description of some of the stuff that happened in the film, I'm glad you chose a "spoiler free" review of the film.
I've never watched it, and don't ever plan to, but if anyone is thinking about watching this movie to see what it's about, I'd very much recommend that you find a review that goes into the stuff that happens a little more; this movie is pretty much torture porn from what I have heard.
Alright, Day 2 of this shit. Already I am feeling like I am about to fuck up something. Oh well, onward with the non-specific review of a particular movie:

I heard of this particular flick while talking about A Serbian Film, which I hope to do in a couple days, in the IRC. I had professed a disappointment with the disturbing material in A Serbian Film, and ended up watching this the next night. And since I derped up my schedule today, I won't be going into a detailed description of what happens in this movie. I instead offer up a spoiler-free editorial, for lack of a better word.
The tagline "The Sickest Film Ever Made" is quite apt to be honest. August Underground revels in the realism and brutality it set out to portray. It is the story of two serial killers, as recorded by one on camera. It opens on a torture scene. If A Serbian Film is the king of high budget exploitation, this lords over the low budget stuff. I cannot tell you to watch this movie without knowing you personally. It is a very hard watch. It is made in the style of older exploitation, where a lot of it is dialogue and not that showy. Death Proof is the most recent example of this type of film that I can think of that was any sort of mainstream.
I'll be perfectly honest, I don't want to say much about this movie. If it sounds interesting to you, I implore you to watch it. August Underground is great. But I know how greatly even a single person talking up a movie can affect the viewing.
I've no idea what I'll write about tomorrow. Hope it is something more detailed.
I tried watching this movie, and I stopped out of boredom. That was right around the "cut-off dick dildo rape" scene.
That one Japanese movie where the guy just cuts the lady apart for an hour was way more entertaining.
Eh, I prefer the smaller scale violence. Go past a point and it just becomes hilariously implausible. Though I will admit a good portion of this movie is boring as fuck.
God man, who the fuck watches this shit? I'm seriously scared of anyone that likes movies like this because I just know there's a fucking serial killer waiting to happen right there.
I know it's almost the same argument as "video games cause violence", which we all know is bullshit, but I think when it comes to "torture porn" there's a difference. It's a much more realistic depiction of violence than any video game could ever hope to be, and the only purpose it serves is to be as horrific as possible.
I dunno, that's just how I feel about it.
I enjoy watching these types of films because I enjoyed being horrified. I am not frightened of what normally bothers people, so I have to look toward the fringes of what the MPAA is willing to rate or things like this that ignore it and release anyway.
Daily life is horrifying enough for me, lol...
